Our Projects

Youth-led initiatives restoring Tanzania’s vital ocean ecosystems through action.

Seagrass beds—lost at 7% yearly—are vital yet overlooked marine ecosystems threatened by pollution and development. The Grass Underwater Project raises awareness, monitors, researches, conserves, and restores Tanzania’s seagrass while protecting endangered species like sea cows and turtles.

Msimbazi River supplies water to 100,000+ Dar es Salaam residents but carries 1,000+ tons of waste—including industrial chemicals—to the ocean yearly. This cleanup project educated communities on waste management and removed 2.5+ tons of pollution from the heavily contaminated river.

Whales and other marine species are under increasing pressure from pollution, climate change, and human exploitation. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste enter the ocean, causing devastating effects on marine animals. Whales often mistake plastic for food, leading to fatal consequences. Additionally, abandoned fishing nets, known as “ghost gear,” entangle countless marine creatures, leaving them unable to swim or breathe properly.

Tanzania generates 4,300+ tons of waste daily—90% dumped, flowing into oceans where plastics soon outnumber fish by 2030. Our cleanups raise awareness, drive behavioral change, and protect coral reefs and marine species from extinction.

Launched in 2021, this capacity-building bootcamp equips passionate Tanzanian youth with skills to tackle ocean challenges, innovate blue economy solutions, and drive conservation action. It transforms participants into empowered activists and change agents.

“Mikoko Yetu” (“Our Mangrove”) restores Bagamoyo’s mangrove forests since 2021, protecting biodiversity and coastal livelihoods while fighting climate change. The project empowers youth and communities through conservation, innovation, education, and sustainable blue economy practices for lasting impact.

This specialized program equips Tanzanian youth with swimming, free diving, and scuba certification skills for marine conservation, research, and blue economy careers. Participants gain hands-on ocean literacy and restoration experience while advancing professionally.
